| WHAT IS COUNSELLING?
Counselling is a confidential service that enables you to talk through worries or situations that are causing problems in your life, and helps you to better understand and manage them. Counselling offers you a safe, private space, where you will be listened to without prejudice or judgment.
The client is in control of the counseling process: you will be able to express your feelings openly and work through issues at your own pace, in your own way.
A range of different techniques can be used in counselling to help you to make changes in your life, including cognitive behaviour therapy (CBT - see the section on the left). HOW LONG WILL IT LAST?
Counselling can be very brief, or longer-term, depending on the needs of the client. Sessions usually last 50 minutes, and take place once a week. The number and frequency of sessions is negotiable, for example from 4 to 24 sessions as appropriate. | |
